Once approved you can notify your insurance company for a full reimbursement of that years Flood Insurance premiums, check with your insurance agents. You will also receive the unused portions of your flood insurance premiums from your Escrow Account. In most cases the reimbursements more than cover the processing and petitioning fees.
As part of its administration of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) publishes flood hazard maps, called Flood Insurance Rate Maps. The purpose of these maps is to show the areas in a community that are subject to flooding. One of the areas shown on the Rate Map is a Special Flood Hazard Area or (SFHA). The SFHA is the area that has a 1-percent or greater chance of flooding in any given year. The flood hazard and risk information presented on the Rate Map are performed by engineering companies, other Federal agencies, or communities approved by FEMA.
Inadvertently some areas have been shown within a Flood Zone on a Rate Map even though the property/Structure is on natural ground and is at or above the Base Flood Elevation and should not be represented in a Flood Zone. Meaning (Flood Insurance is optional)
Earthen fill may have been placed during construction, thereby elevating your structure to an elevation that is at or above the Base Flood Elevation for that area. If so, it will be possible to remove you from your present flood zone determination designated by FEMA. The new flood zone may lower or even eliminate, you’re Flood Insurance Premiums. Recognizing that these situations do occur, FEMA established administrative procedures to change the designation for these properties on the Flood Insurance Rate Maps. These processes are referred to as the Letter of Map Amendment, or LOMA process and the Letter of Map Revision Based on or fill LOMR-F process.
